Abstract

A nation's education is influenced by several factors, including curriculum, teachers, facilities, and learning resources. The problem-based learning model has great potential to improve social studies learning and provide a more engaging learning experience for students. This study aims to conduct a literature review related to critical thinking skills using the problem-based learning model in social studies learning. The method used in this study is the SLR (Systematic Literature Review) method. Data collection was carried out by collecting and reviewing articles related to critical thinking skills using the problem-based learning model in social studies learning published in 2022-2025. Researchers collected 10 articles in journals from Google Scholar and Publish or Perish. Based on the results of a systematic review of several published studies, it can be concluded that the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) learning model has proven effective in improving critical thinking skills in social studies learning. The implementation of this model involves students actively, collaboratively, and is centered on the learning activities of elementary school students. Through the stages applied, students become more involved in the problem-solving process. Thus, the use of the Problem Based Learning model in learning activities can help form students' habits of critical thinking on an ongoing basis.
